What is BMW iDrive and which features does it offer?
More than a classic display and operating concept, BMW iDrive integrates telematics, networked services and data processing, it connects end devices and offers third-party app or smartphone integration, as well as seamlessly incorporating cloud-based services, such as BMW Maps. BMW iDrive also includes BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades and BMW Software Updates.
Where to find a BMW iDrive manual?
You can find a model-specific Owner’s Handbook in your vehicle’s BMW iDrive menu under “My Vehicle” > “Owner’s Handbook”. Alternatively, you can download the BMW Driver’s Guide for iOS or Android via the My BMW app.
Which operating system does my BMW have?

What is the BMW iDrive Controller?
The BMW iDrive Controller is also known as the BMW Controller. It varies depending on your model of BMW and the central operating on your BMW’s centre console. You use the BMW iDrive Controller to operate the iDrive system, which lets you control various vehicle functions, such as navigation, media, vehicle settings and communication services. It consists of a control element that you can operate intuitively using turning, pressing or tilting movements. You can use the surface of the BMW iDrive Controller as a touchpad.
What advantages do the BMW Operating System 8.5 and the BMW Operating System 9 offer?
The new BMW Operating Systems provide you with a start screen with intuitive QuickSelect quicklist, live widgets and touch-optimised operation. You can also subscribe to the optional BMW Digital Premium Package for BMW Operating System 9. Additionally, both systems offer access to extra entertainment services, such as casual gaming and video streaming.
Can I upgrade my BMW Operating System?
No. All BMW Operating Systems are based on a separately developed, system-specific hardware and infrastructure. It is not possible to change from BMW Operating System 8 or BMW Operating System 8.5 to BMW Operating System 9 or BMW Operating System X or upgrade it.
