EVERYTHING IN VIEW. EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL.
Driver assistance systems in the BMW 4 Series Coupé.
Playing safe: a journey in the BMW 4 Series Coupé. Our driver assistance systems give you innovative and clever support and set standards in terms of safety and comfort.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, allowing them to fully concentrate on driving.
The display includes data such as the current speed and – depending on the equipment – navigation tips, Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists, along with information and warnings from the various driver assistance systems. The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were approx. 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.
Automatic modification
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, with different displays for day and night, and the height of the display can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assistance systems.

CAMERA SYSTEMS.
Park Distance Control, Surround View, Rear View Camera: Enjoy a clear view in the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits. Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear allows you to park safely and comfortably thanks to optical and acoustic signals.
Surround View shows your vehicle in the Control Display with the aid of a projection from above. The Side View system included in this equipment option guarantees a better overview when visibility is poor at road exits. The Rear View Camera provides welcome support when you are reversing into parking spaces at speeds of less than 20 km/h.
BMW ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO FUNCTION.

Increase of comfort and safety.
The optional Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, incl. radar based approach control warning with braking function, increases safety and is particularly convenient when driving in dense traffic. In addition, the system constantly measures the distance to vehicles in front and maintains a preselected distance.
Regulated speed.
The Stop&Go function not only automatically regulates speed down to standstill, it also automatically accelerates back up to the desired speed as soon as traffic flow allows.
Activate collision warning.
If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, your BMW responds immediately when the collision warning is activated. Stage 1 consists of a visual signal, while stage 2 - which is triggered if you have not yet reacted - attracts your attention by means of an acoustic signal. Once this stage has passed, your BMW brakes for you if you have still not done so: the system triggers a stop up to maximum possible deceleration.
BMW ACTIVE PROTECTION.

BMW ConnectedDrive Passenger Protection.
Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system.
After the front safety belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front safety belts are reversibly pretensioned if necessary, and the side windows are closed − as is the sliding roof, if there is one. A critical situation would include an emergency stop made by the driver or if the automobile demonstrated excessive understeer or oversteer.
Intelligent Attentiveness Assistant.
When the vehicle is fitted with approach control warning or approach control warning with braking function, potential collisions with moving or stationary vehicles ahead can be recognised in advance (within the system’s limits).
In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill without any intervention from the driver. This helps to reduce the likelihood of a follow-up collision and to minimise the damage caused by one. In addition, the Attentiveness Assistant monitors the driver’s behaviour for signs of fatigue. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behaviour by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting the driver take a break.

BMW SELECTIVE BEAM.
With BMW Selective Beam, driving at night is more comfortable and safer. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers.
BMW Selective Beam detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the highbeam headlight distribution. Beam ranges of 400 m ensure early detection of risks and improved directional tracking.

SPEED LIMIT INFO.
Better safe than sorry: the Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator shows you the current speed limit as well as whether or not overtaking is allowed. This is indicated in the Info Display in the instrument cluster and in
the Head-Up Display. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system. Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so variable speed limits in wet conditions (for example) are also registered. This means you’ll always be well informed about the road ahead. The Navigation System Business or Professional are required.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.
The Driving Assistant package combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach and person warning with light city braking activation.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated.
Whereas the approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

iDRIVE TOUCH.
The iDrive Touch Controller gives you convenient control of the iDrive system with one hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated in the Controller, you can easily enter such information as destinations for the navigation system using your own handwriting. You can also use it to access a wide range of functions and settings as well as for scrolling through lists. Operation is effortless and intuitive by means of touch - a great help for you as the driver since it barely distracts your concentration on the road. All functions operated using the Controller can be conveniently viewed in the Control Display.
